Sautéed Spinach

  • If you don’t have extra virgin olive oil, you can use regular cooking oil. But extra virgin olive oil is healthier and better option. You can use mustard oil too, it is also a healthy option.
  • If you don’t have baby spinach leaves, you can use regular spinach leaves. But make sure to throw away hard and yellow leaves and trim down the stems. Stems ruin the sautéed spinach dish.
  • You can add onions if you like.

Step by Step Sautéed Spinach Recipe:

Baby Spinach Leaves
  • Wash the spinach leaves and let them dry completely. You can use a clean towel or paper towel to dry them. Spinach leaves have a lot of water in them already so it’s better to dry them after washing them.
  • Use a large frying pan or skillet because uncooked spinach leaves take a lot of space. Don’t worry they will wilt down later.
  • First of all, put one large tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil on skillet on a medium heat.
  • Immediately add all sliced 8 to 10 garlic in it. Let the oil and garlic heat up together so that garlic flavor and scent can mix throughout the oil.
  • Cook it until garlic becomes nice and light brown in color and you start to smell a nice fragrant of garlic.
  • Now add 2 pinches of red pepper flakes. This is optional and depends on your taste. But spinach and red pepper flakes taste nice together.
  • Now, add all 500 grams of spinach. It will seem a lot at first on frying pan but it will wilt down as you cook. Put the lid on, turn the heat down to medium low and cook it for one minute.
  • After one minute, open the lid and you will see that it is starting to wilt down.
  • Turn the heat up to medium. Give it a good stir and put salt and pepper to taste. Cook it for another 1 minute. Don’t overcook it. Spinach will become flavorless and mushy if you overcook it. One minute is enough.
  • Turn off the heat. Squeeze half of lemon on top of it. Taste it to check if salt is okay.

Congratulations! Your delicious sautéed spinach is ready to be served.
