nutrient is a component in foods that an organism uses to survive and grow.

Nutrients are environmental substances used by our body for energy, growth, and bodily functions.

These substances are needed in small amounts or larger amounts. Which are needed in large amounts are called Macronutrients and which are needed in small amounts are  called as Micronutrients.

There are three macronutrients required by humans:

Each of these macronutrients provides energy in the form of calories.

  • In carbohydrates, there are 4 calories per gram.
  • In proteins, there are 4 calories per gram.
  • And in fats, there are 9 calories per gram.

Among all these macronutrients, fats have the highest amount of calories per gram.
