Chips and dips are one of the most popular snacks and party foods today. Everyone loves to eat potato chips with that sour cream dip. Sour, sweet, or spicy, who doesn’t love a dip? Especially Spinach Artichoke Dip.

Most of you must be wondering where the idea for dips came from? The only history I have to tell you about dips and how these got so popular especially in America is that this dip idea started when in the 1950s eating in front of the TV was becoming more and more common. And the companies of packaged snacks like Lays and Hellman’s lifted the popularity of these dips even more.

Step by step recipe for spinach artichoke dip:

  1. To make white sauce take ½ cup milk in a bowl.
  2. Add 2 tablespoons flour. That’s what’s going to thicken the sauce.
  3. Also, add a pinch of black pepper just to add a nice flavor.
  4. Add a pinch of salt. You can add more salt in the end if you don’t feel like you have enough.
  5. Mix this up. You may not get every single lump of the flour out it’s okay. It doesn’t have to be perfect and especially when it’s your first time trying out this recipe.
  6. Add garlic powder or fresh garlic paste whatever you like.
  7. You can cook it for 5-10 minutes in the oven to make it smooth. And keep stirring in between until it’s thick and creamy just like pudding.
  8. Now add the creamy cheese to it and whisk together. Let it melt for some time. You can add a little hot sauce to enhance the taste. It will make it from just okay to great.
  9. Meanwhile, prepare the artichokes. You can use marinated one, the grilled one, and even whole artichokes. Cut them into bite-sized pieces.
  10. Now add grated parmesan cheese and mozzarella cheese to the white sauce mixture we made.
  11. Add the cut artichokes and spinach also. It is best to use chopped frozen spinach. Chop the spinach and then squeeze out all the water. There should not be any liquid. Mix it all.
  12. Now add this mixture into a 9×13 baking dish after greasing the dish with some oil.
  13. Put it in the oven for 30 minutes at 350° F.
  14. Take it out when edges are golden and bubbly.

Bottom line:

With what this creamy spinach artichoke dip can be served?

There is no such hard and fast rule for what you should serve this dip with. You can enjoy anything with this creamy smooth spinach artichoke dip from potato chips to crackers to nachos to breadsticks and what not. If you like to eat raw veggies this dip is best for you.

Can we make this dip healthier?

Though there is nothing that will be as delicious as this full-fat version, there are always some ways to make this dip healthier. If you like, you can use Greek yogurt in place of white sauce.

You can also increase the amount of spinach and artichoke. This will give you more veggies per bite and less cheese per bite.

Can we store this dip by making it ahead of time?

Why not? Before baking, you can store it in an airtight container in your refrigerator for up to 3 days.
