Sweet Potato Casserole Recipe
How many of you know what this dish “sweet potato casserole” actually is? Well if you don’t know then you must have heard about Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving Day is an annual national holiday in the United States, Canada, and several other countries for celebrating the harvest and other blessings of the past year.
And this fare is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November month in the US. Thanksgiving meal typically includes turkey, potatoes, pumpkin pie cranberries, etc. There is no other dish more reviled and revered than the sweet potato marshmallow casserole.
It appears on Americans’ dining table not only on Thanksgiving Day but is enjoyed on Christmas and other holidays. There are various versions of this dish as not everyone likes the taste of sweet potato marshmallow casserole so, today I am gonna share recipe for Sweet potato casserole with pecan nut topping.
I know during the colder months of the year everyone looks forward to that one dish and it is one of them. It has a peculiar velvety texture and soul-warming flavor. As these holidays are approaching we should also jump to the recipe now.
Step 1. Peel all the sweet potatoes and chop them into small pieces. The pieces should be of the same size so that they cook evenly.
Step 2. Now transfer them into a pot, add some water, and then continue cooking at medium heat for about 15-20 minutes. Or you can check their tenderness by using a fork. These should be easily pierced with a fork. Drain the water completely.
Step 3. Meanwhile, pre-heat the oven to 350° Fahrenheit. Now mash the sweet potato with the help of a potato masher.
Step 4. In a medium bowl whisk together 2 eggs and ½ cup of sugar. Also, add in 4 tablespoons of melted butter and ½ tablespoon of vanilla extract. Whisk them until it’s well combined.
Step 5. Now pour the mixture into mashed sweet potatoes. Whisk them together.
Step 6. Pour this mixture into a 9×13 clean casserole dish. Smooth out the top and now it’s time to make the crumb topping.
Step 7. In a bowl whisk together ½ cup of brown sugar and ½ cup of flour. Add 4 tablespoons of butter. Rub the mixture together with the help of your fingers until it turns into a crumb. Add ½ cup of chopped pecans and spread that mixture evenly over the casserole dish.
Step 8. Bake it uncovered in a preheated oven for 35-40 minutes. When it’s done the topping will be golden and toasted and you will see the sweet potato puffing at the edges.
Congratulations! Your Sweet Potato Casserole is ready. Serve it hot.
